Season 13

VivaVoce’s 2011-2012 Season: “New Friends, New Music”

Montreal’s most entertaining chamber choir proudly announces its 13th season: four unusual and diverse concerts including exciting collaborations with Sixtrum and BradyWorks and Montreal’s newest early wind ensemble (yet to be named!).

“Most of our seasons have been primarily a capella,” says the group’s artistic director Peter Schubert. “I’m really looking forward to making music with these terrific groups – early winds, percussion, electric guitar, and orchestra will add exciting colors and personalities.”

Three of the concerts are on the ensemble’s subscription series; the fourth—an interactive concert—is part of a conference hosted by the Schulich School of Music, and will be open to the public free of charge.

Gombert, Jachet, Willaert, de Manchicourt and Michael of Verona were the first composers to use musical gestures to depict dramatic scenes from the Gospels, yet their work remains largely unknown, eclipsed by the generations before and after. This concert, part of a musicological conference, will feature interventions by scholars of international renown, and the public will be welcome to attend lectures on the repertoire earlier in the day.
